Tottenham Hotspur wide forward Son Heung-min has been subject to ample speculations surrounding his future as the South Korean enters the final year of his contract at White Hart Lane.
The 32-year-old has not only taken over the skipper’s armband but also the limelight at N17 since the previous season following Harry Kane’s departure. Son has been a key cog in Ange Postecoglou’s roster and an intense presence in the dressing room.
At the moment, the former Bayer Leverkusen star’s contract at Hotspur Way expires at the end of the season; however, the club does hold a one-year trigger option that would extend his stay in North London till the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
King urges Spurs to consider two-year deal for Son
Despite the option, ex-Lilywhites scout Bryan King has backed his former employers to offer the 32-year-old a fresh set of new terms in a two-year deal amid reports suggesting Tottenham’s plan to trigger a one-year option in their skipper’s contract (h/t Telegraph).
King insists that Son would likely finish his career donning the Spurs badge.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he insists the club should rather be looking beyond the one-year option. He said:
“I think Spurs should be asking Son if he wants to finish his career with the club.
“Here is a brand-new two-year deal, and if the one year goes well, we take up the second year or if you want to go, we release you. There are a lot of Korean supporters that come over for Spurs’ matches, which will be very lucrative. Therefore, keeping him around for as long as possible makes a lot of sense.”
Son is a huge figure at Tottenham, and it is highly viable that he considers calling curtains to his career at the club. And in my opinion, the North Londoners should be prioritising securing his signatures for a longer period. A potential two-year deal would not only serve as a reward for his loyalty and contributions at N17 but also ensure that Ange Postecoglou has the necessary stability in his roster to build for the future.
