Arsenal have named their provisional u19 squad for Wednesday’s UEFA Youth League match away to Inter Milan, and a notable absentee is goalkeeper Tommy Setford.
Setford has travelled to Italy, and he started the last Youth League game against Shakhtar Donetsk, leading to expectations that he would start this one too.
But with no place in the squad on this occasion, it’s now expected that Setford will be involved on the bench for the senior team.
Arsenal usually name three goalkeepers in the Champions League squads, so Setford’s inclusion shouldn’t be any cause for concern when it comes to David Raya and Neto. Both senior goalkeepers should also be in the squad.
Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have also travelled to Italy without being named in the u19 squad, so they’re both set to make the senior bench as well – or indeed the starting lineup.
As for the players who are in the u19 squad, the team will be boosted by the return of Max Dowman and Jack Porter from international duty with the England u17s. Porter already featured for the Arsenal u18s over the weekend, but this will be Dowman’s first game back.
The u19 match will take place at 13:00 GMT on Wednesday, ahead of the first-team match later in the day. Below is the provisional squad in full (via Arsenal Youth):
