Ex-Liverpool star Jermaine Pennant has spotted a tweak Arne Slot has made to transform the club this season.
The Reds have lost just once under their new manager and are currently on a 10-match unbeaten run.
Slot’s side sit top of both the Premier League and Champions League, having won all four matches in Europe this term.
According to Pennant, Slot has made a change to the side which his predecessor Jurgen Klopp missed.
Klopp achieved a third place finish in his final season as his side faded in the title race during the closing weeks of the campaign.
The former Reds winger told Drive: “What I think he’s done amazingly well, that Klopp didn’t, is he’s now starting to get the best out of Luis Diaz. He’s now chipping in with goals galore.
“And the transformation of Gravenberch, putting him as the number six.
“Klopp missed a trick there because we was playing Endo, no disrespect to Endo, he was just a stop gap.
“He can’t do what Gravenberch does, on the turn and driving through that midfield.”
Diaz is Liverpool’s joint top scorer with Mohamed Salah after scoring nine goals in 15 appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Gravenberch has played every minute in the league and Europe under Slot.
The 22-year-old has become a key man for the Reds in his new defensive midfield role.
As well as topping the table domestically and in the Champions League, Slot’s side are also into the last eight of the Carabao Cup.
The Reds visit Southampton for a place in the semi-finals next month.
And Pennant believes no team in European football can hold a candle to Liverpool right now.
“At the moment, they’re the best team in Europe,” the former winger added.
“Top of the Champions League and top of the Premier League. Xabi Alonso even came out and said it. The stats don’t lie.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool could extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points this weekend.
The Reds host Aston Villa on Saturday night in their final match before the international break.
