West Ham United play host to Everton in the Premier League this weekend, and Chris Sutton has made his prediction for the game.
Chris Sutton has been an outspoken critic of West Ham duo Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten this season, suggesting that he was baffled by the appointment of the Spaniard in the first-place.
Sutton is suggesting exactly what the London Stadium faithful have been saying all along; why replace Moyes with the Spanish version of him if we want a more attractive playing style?
The Premier League clash with Everton tomorrow is obviously a must-win, but I feel like even if we do beat them, it will only be delaying the inevitable.
Lopetegui cannot continue to be put in this position whereby he needs a win to save his job. The Hammers head coach faces clashes with Newcastle and Arsenal after the international break.
So let’s say the Hammers beat Everton on Saturday, but then lose those two fixtures.
We have games against Leicester and Wolves after that – will they then become must-wins for him to remain as West Ham boss? That way of doing things does not create a healthy work environment and it is incredibly short-sighted.
Wins against Everton, Leicester and Wolves shouldn’t mean he’s the right person to take us forward.
I think he should be sacked before the international break regardless of the result against the Toffees.
But what does Sutton think the outcome will be at the London Stadium?
Chris Sutton makes West Ham vs Everton prediction
Saturday’s three o’clock kick-off at the London Stadium cannot come around quick enough.
It’s our most important game of the season so far, and a comfortable win is a necessity.
Anything other than that and Lopetegui’s role as head coach will surely be untenable won’t it?
Sutton made his prediction for the West Ham vs Everton clash for the BBC.
He said, “West Ham are in trouble. As I said on The Monday Night Club, they don’t really have an identity under Julen Lopetegui.“
“He has always been a pragmatic manager in my eyes but they want to be a more expansive side and he is stuck somewhere in between at the moment.“
“There is a lot of uncertainty around them at present, and I am certainly not convinced by them at home. They beat Manchester United there a couple of weeks ago, but they were lucky to win that one.“
“While the Hammers are still above Everton in the table, the Toffees’ had been in better form, but then they lost at struggling Southampton last week which is a disappointing defeat whichever way you look at it.“
“The only team Everton have beaten away this season is Ipswich, so I would not feel confident backing them to bounce back with a win here. I don’t want to pick another draw, but this has got one written all over it.“
Sutton’s prediction: 2-2
If the game does end in a 2-2 draw, Lopetegui should be sacked immediately after the final whistle.
Nothing less than a convincing performance and win should be enough for him to keep his job.
I expect to see major improvements at the London Stadium this weekend.
A win will be crucial in order to bring some feel-good vibes back to the club.
Chris Sutton thinks the West Ham vs Everton clash on Saturday will end in a 2-2 draw, and that simply won’t be good enough for us.
