West Ham have a new name at the top of their January transfer window wishlist as the club looks to save the season.
It goes without saying West Ham’s signing of Niclas Fullkrug has been disastrous so far.
Tim Steidten simply had to get the striker signing right after the club elected not to replace Gianluca Scamacca the summer before.
Hammers fans proved, once again, they know their football.
Eyebrows were raised by supporters when West Ham were moving for Fullkrug in the summer.
Fans were concerned about 31-year-old Fullkrug’s age, lack of pace and injury record.
Those worries proved well founded. Fullkrug made just three cameo substitute appearances before suffering an Achilles and calf injury on international duty in September.
The German has been out ever since and has no timeframe on his return.
Two weeks ago it was reported West Ham are concerned Fullkrug’s contribution will be minimal this season with the possibility he will be out until into the new year.
With Michail Antonio – who turns 35 in March – and 32-year-old Danny Ings both out of contract at the end of the season a new forward will be needed in the coming windows anyway. Regardless of what happens with Fullkrug.
As a result West Ham have started compiling a list of striker targets to go after.
Incredibly West Ham’s move for Kolo Muani isn’t impossible
Now a new name has been added to the list in the shape of French ace Randal Kolo Muani.
That’s according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
Many believe the links to be far-fetched.
But incredibly, West Ham’s season-saving move for Kolo Muani it’s not as impossible as it seems.
The 25-year-old has reached a point of no return at PSG L’Équipe.
The France international, who came within inches of winning the last World Cup for his country, has failed to live up to the whopping £85m price tag PSG paid for him from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023.
It’s reported in France that PSG are now looking to ship him out in January.
West Ham have good relations with the French giants and open lines of communication after the signings of Alphonse Areola, Thilo Kehrer and Carlos Soler.
However, just because Kolo Muani went there for big money, doesn’t mean he’s out of West Ham’s range in January.
Bailey has given an exclusive insight the situation, revealing a loan move is possible.
And he says West Ham’s ability to offer Kolo Muani a guaranteed starting spot could see them beat other Premier League clubs being linked.
West Ham could have trump card over rivals reveals journalist
“West Ham are not looking to spend huge in January, most Premier League clubs won’t be but they are looking at options available, particularly in the striker department,” Bailey told Hammers News.
“There are a few options presenting themselves but few as good as Randal Kolo Muani – who PSG are allowing to go, and a loan is possible due to the fact Luis Enrique has made it clear he is not part of his plans.
“Kolo Muani is a top player, he has the trust of Didier Deschamps, evidenced by the fact he starts more games for his country than his club.
“I am told West Ham are one of a number of clubs who have shown an interest, but they are not alone with even Arsenal and Man City amongst the crowd. Arsenal and City are on the lookout for top quality that can enhance their options and that is where West Ham could offer something different… guaranteed regular football.
“Whilst Arsenal and City do seem more attractive from the outside, will Kolo Muani see more first-team football at the Emirates or Etihad than he is at the Parc Des Princes? I don’t see it… because of that, I wouldn’t rule West Ham out.
“Tim Steidten is aware of the player who previously starred for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, and if Kolo Muani does move, West Ham will throw their hat into the ring.”
