Julen Lopetegui is in desperate need of a big performance from his West Ham United players, and a result against Everton on Saturday.
West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui is a man under real pressure right now, after overseeing a really poor start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
It has actually been claimed that the Spaniard could be sacked this weekend, even if the Hammers beat Everton!
There is a serious amount of doom and gloom at the London Stadium right now, and the problem is nobody has any confidence that Lopetegui is the man we need to turn things around.
The style of football has been turgid at times, and the team quite clearly lacks any kind of footballing identity.
Lopetegui has looked clueless on the touchline. Whether that’s because he has actually ran out of ideas or his players are simply unable to execute them is still up for debate though.
West Ham fans won’t believe Jim White’s Julen Lopetegui claim
This weekend’s game against Everton is the most important one we’ve faced this season.
Nothing less than a convincing performance and a victory against the Toffees will do as far as I’m concerned.
However, do the board hold the same viewpoint? It has been claimed that they might do, but is that really the case?
Jim White certainly doesn’t think so.
The talkSPORT host shared what a source high up at West Ham has just told him about Lopetegui’s situation:
“We hope and expect to do well against Everton.”
“If we were to lose five nil against them, he would still, Lopetegui, be the manager on Monday morning. We are people who honour contracts, and we expect the manager to come good. We have to give him time.”
Well, well, well.
If we do lose 5-0 to Everton, and Lopetegui remains in charge, the atmosphere at the London Stadium will turn toxic.
He has to go whatever the result in my opinion, especially if we lose.
Julen Lopetegui is far from popular at West Ham right now, and Jim White’s latest claim will just make the Hammers fans angrier than they already are.
Let’s hope that the Hammers owners change their minds if West Ham do indeed get smashed by Everton this weekend.
