Do you ever wake up on a Sunday morning and lie there for five minutes fantasising about what life would be like, winning last night’s lottery? Yes, me too. Let’s play the ‘West Ham Lottery’ variant and pretend – just for a second – that David Sullivan removed West Ham’s head coach late last night after I’d long since stopped reading my news feeds and has installed Mark Noble to lead the training for the international break – whilst a new coach is installed in time for the matches against Newcastle Leicester and Wolves.
Excited yet? I am .
Wow, will it be Mourinho? Potter? Terzic? Does it matter? Yes of course, but the identity of ‘whom’ is not important this morning. The fact that our Chairman put club before cash and sacked his choice for head coach, showing humility in making such a mammoth error in the original appointment would be a watershed moment for our club: You could almost feel West Ham were ‘growing up’ rather than just ploughing on to save face and the six million it would cost to pay Lopetegui off.
Now – open your eyes. Back to reality. That dream is over.
We face a season of of un-intelligeble press conferences, hopelessly out- manoeuvred midfields and talent played out of position. Ageing strikers and multiple bans and suspensions to look forward to: The only good thing is that we’re all in it together.
There is no escape. Claret and Blue in the blood is a lifelong affliction I’m afraid. So, nurse that Hammers hangover, grab some coffee and ‘endure’ it all. – Its what we do best.
