West Ham United were atrocious against Everton on Saturday afternoon, we can all agree on that right?
Aside from a really strong performance from Crysencio Summerville, and a solid outing from Max Kilman, West Ham looked like a League Two side against the visiting Toffees.
That really wasn’t good enough, and Julen Lopetegui must know that.
All is quite clearly not well at the London Stadium, with key players clashing out on the pitch, and a painful lack of footballing identity on display.
Everton are a poor side, and that’s all that saved West Ham from real embarrassment on Saturday.
The Hammers have no direction right now with Lopetegui in charge, and the head coach is a dead man walking.
Or is he?
West Ham board’s verdict on Everton draw
That was the worst performance from the Hammers that I have seen in some time on Saturday.
The painful lack of energy, dynamism and sheer will to win that we’re seeing right now is a real concern.
Even more worrying is the feeling that Lopetegui has no clue how to change things.
But what do the Hammers owners think about that shambolic showing against Everton?
Well, you might not quite believe it.
According to Sean Whetstone, the West Ham hierarchy believe that the team were ‘a fraction unlucky’ in the end.
That’s so wide of the mark if you ask me.
West Ham were in no way unfortunate not to beat Everton.
It was a shocking performance, and we deserved nothing more than a 0-0 draw.
What worries me is that the owners clearly think there were some positives to take from that display against the Toffees.
West Ham face games against Newcastle, Arsenal, Leicester and Wolves immediately after the international break, and a return of nothing less than six points will do from those matches.
Will Lopetegui be up to the task? We shall have to wait and see, but I don’t think he will be.
