Nil Nil at half time and the 60,000+ crowd was growing restless.
West Ham had the better of the chances in the second half, with Summerville hitting the post, and Ings being denied twice by England international goalkeeper Pickford. On the 61st minute Everton could have stolen the lead when Lindstroms header was tipped over by Fabianski.
A point for West Ham keeps them in 14th position for now.
Everton had more overall possession and a total of 18 shots, albeit only four of these troubled Fabianski.
There weren’t many stand out performers for West Ham yet it was upfront where there are obvious issues. With no return date set for Fullkrug, it was Antonio who once again led the West Ham forward line.
He had fewer touches than Fabianski 31 to 34 and won 50% of his duels, losing possession 11 times and having one shot before being substituted by Danny Ings on the 67th minute.
After the match criticism came from all quarters,
Jacob Steinberg, Guardian journalist, wrote on his X account “ No patterns of play, no intensity, no aggression. Fans losing patience with Lopetegui”
Martin Keown on BBC Final score noticed that some players weren’t responding to the Head Coaches instructions. “No one really engaged, he’s trying to get them to press, some want to do it others don’t. It’s like he’s lost the players a bit”
Lopetegui had a different view “Our aim was to win the match and we deserved to win the match, we had enough chances to do so. We can look at a positive thing – the clean sheet and the chances we had.”
Boos at full time and half time best summarised this performance and with Newcastle away followed by Arsenal at home, it’s only going to get more difficult. I hope West Ham are in Lopetegui’s words “ready for the challenge”
