Emerson Palmieri addressed the media after West Ham United drew 0-0 with Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.
West Ham put in a terrible performance overall, and although Emerson Palmieri wasn’t one of our worst performers, he did say something incredibly worrying after the match.
The Hammers owners have apparently made it very clear to Julen Lopetegui that results must improve if he is to remain in the job.
The 2024/25 season has been an incredibly challenging one for West Ham so far.
There was huge optimism back in the summer, but that has been replaced by massive negativity stemming from Lopetegui’s inability to get a tune out of his players.
The draw with Everton was our ‘ground zero’ moment. Things can’t get much worse after that performance.
And that’s what makes Emerson’s post-match comments so worrying to hear.
Emerson Palmieri makes bizarre claim after West Ham vs Everton
The only good thing about the game on Saturday was the final whistle – it really was a huge relief!
Most Hammers fans had left the London Stadium long before that, and I don’t blame them one little bit for doing so.
However, it seems like one player in particular was completely blinded by just how poor the West Ham performance was.
Emerson spoke to reporters after the match, and make a bizarre suggestion, as quoted by WHUFC.com.
The Italian said, “These types of games, if you don’t win, then the most important thing is to not concede a goal, so we take this clean sheet and I think, for us, it’s a good point because we need to take this confidence and continue in this way with not conceding a goal, so this point is important for us.”
Whether Emerson’s comments were lost in translation or not, there’s no excuse for what he said as far as I’m concerned.
That performance from the Hammers on Saturday was absolutely disgusting, and the point should in no way shape or form be considered a good one.
West Ham desperately needed a win against Everton, and the fact that we didn’t get all three points is mostly down to Lopetegui’s ineptitude.
The Spaniard is a dead man walking, and I don’t think he’ll last until Christmas.
However, it must be said that the players need to step up and start performing. Emerson Palmieri’s comments after West Ham’s draw with Everton were deeply concerning if you ask me.
Perhaps the current group don’t have the required mentality needed to succeed.
