The Niclas Fullkrug to West Ham United transfer just hasn’t worked out at all so far has it.
Niclas Fullkrug proved himself at Borussia Dortmund, so when he arrived at the London Stadium, most West Ham fans thought we had a proper player on our hands.
However, some of us were wary of his age and previous injury problems – he has missed 93 games since the start of the 2018/19 season.
The West Ham hierarchy still have faith in Fullkrug, and want to keep him at the London Stadium, but as things stand, it could easily be argued that we have bought a dud.
Hopefully he’ll be back playing soon, and we get to see him at his very best in East London.
However right now, all the signs are pointing to the German’s struggles continuing for some time yet, unfortunately.
Worrying Niclas Fullkrug claim is terrible for West Ham
It seems like the Hammers made a big mistake by signing the striker back in the summer.
He has been out with an injury since early September, and appears to be further away from returning to action than ever.
The German is clearly struggling to come to terms with his opening three months in London.
According to The Evening Standard, Fullkrug has been ‘left knocked’ by his awful start to life with West Ham.
He is apparently extremely down after his poor form for the Hammers and then the Achilles injury he picked up back in September.
Now, that’s obviously terrible news for West Ham.
Not only do we have an ageing, injury prone striker on our hands, one who cost £27.5 million by the way, but now he’s very low on confidence as well.
I actually really feel for Fullkrug. He’s obviously a very good striker, and he proved that during his time with Borussia Dortmund and for the German national team.
However, moving from the Bundesliga to the Premier League at 31 was always going to be a big ask.
The competition is so intense every single week, and I have my doubts that the 31-year-old will ever be able to adapt to the pace of Premier League football.
I really hope I’m wrong, and Niclas Fullkrug ends up flourishing for West Ham.
The outlook seems bleak right now though, it must be said.
