West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has admitted that he’s in awe of one of his teammates.
Michail Antonio has led the line for West Ham this season, due to the injury picked up by Niclas Fullkrug back in September.
Despite the criticism he has received, the 34-year-old is still very important to the Hammers, and it became evident how much we missed him when he didn’t start against Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
That said, it’s clear that Julen Lopetegui needs to make an upgrade on Antonio sooner rather than later.
It has been a really poor start to the 2024/25 season overall for the Hammers, with numerous things going against us.
A lot of our issues have been entirely self made, but Antonio has stuck up for one of his teammates who has cost us dearly this season.
Michail Antonio says West Ham teammate is ‘unbelievable’
The 34-year-old Jamaica international has been out in Kumasi, Ghana recently, overseeing the progress of his new football academy.
And the Hammers ace offered huge words of support for one of his teammates.
Mohammed Kudus has received real criticism recently, following the red card he picked up during our 4-1 defeat to Tottenham back in October.
The 24-year-old displayed a real lack of professionalism, and received a five-game ban as a result.
However, he has received support from one of his teammates.
Antonio offered huge words of praise for Kudus, as quoted by Pulse out in Ghana.
“Starboy, his quality, to be fair, is unbelievable,” Antonio said. “He dribbles well, scores goals, and has great ambition. We could use more players with his qualities in our academy.
“Although he’s missed five games, he’s a key player that we need back in our starting lineup. Things haven’t gone well this year, but I know he’ll come back fully ready to go.” he added.
That’s quite the praise from Antonio, and he’s spot on – Kudus is a sensationally gifted footballer.
The Ghana international is our most talented player, and on the whole, he has been absolutely brilliant for the Hammers.
He has 16 goals and seven assists in 55 games in all competitions for West Ham to his name (Transfermarkt).
That said, he has to learn how to control his emotions better – what he did away at Spurs was unacceptable.
As Michail Antonio said though, Kudus is crucial for West Ham, and we need him to return to action next month firing on all cylinders.
