Tottenham have been linked with a move for Boca Juniors talent Kevin Zenon
Kevin Zenon only joined Boca Juniors at the start of this year but such has been his impact at the club that he is already being touted as a target for several big European sides.
Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the clubs interested in signing the Argentinean winger. They are supposedly open to paying his £13 million release clause in order to bring some much-needed cover and competition for left-back Destiny Udogie. This means the Lilywhites have decided to join the fight for the South American’s signature when the transfer window reopens in January.
Kevin Zenon is a versatile profile who can operate in the left wide forward role as well as slot in as an attacking midfielder. And Ange Postecoglou would be hoping that the Argentinean under-23 international adds depth in wide areas, creativity and goal-scoring ability to his ranks if Tottenham are to secure his signature on the dotted lines.
However, John Wenham—the owner of the famous Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose—wants Tottenham to avoid signing players who can be “path blockers” for the exciting young talent coming through the system. The club insider isn’t fully convinced that Zenon is the ideal profile for the north Londoners.
“With signings, I want the club to think about not signing players who are path blockers,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“For example, someone like Wilson Odobert, I’m not sure if he should’ve been signed because we already have Mikey Moore coming through.
“Therefore, I want the club to be careful that if they make a signing, it is someone who is going to come in and make a genuine difference. We shouldn’t be signing players who are going to be a path blocker for the exciting young talent coming through the club at the moment.”
One can understand why Spurs are looking at poaching Zenon from Boca Juniors as he seems to have the qualities to operate as a winger, wide midfielder or an inverted full-back. However, barring quality depth in the left-back position, Tottenham are well-stocked in the midfield and wing department at this moment.
As far as players coming through are concerned, Mikey Moore has been performing very well in the first team in what could turn out to be his breakthrough campaign at White Hart Lane. Regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the academy and across the nation, the 17-year-old has been handed some important minutes in top football by Ange Postecoglou.

Spending millions on a new young player in the wing position who would potentially challenge Moore for a starting spot might not make sense. Thus, bringing in Zenon would limit the Spurs starlet’s minutes and possibly hamper his development.
That said, if Big Ange and Daniel Levy are genuinely seeking competition for Udogie, they must pursue a natural left-back rather than going for a versatile talent like Zenon.
