On Sunday, a bizarrely-timed story dropped where Lothar Matthäus indicated that one of the primary beefs between former Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick and ex-sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić was Flick wanting Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz and Salihamidžić wanting to spend money elsewhere.
Somehow. German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann found himself in the middle of the fracas and was asked about it at his press conference.
“I don’t know when they [Bayern] first tried to get him. Hansi says very early. Lothar says that Brazzo didn’t want to. Brazzo says that he did want to. I just heard about this story at the dinner table. I don’t know if you always have to talk about that so publicly. I know from my time there that we wanted to sign him despite his ACL tear, but he would have cost a few euros too much,” said Nagelsmann (via @iMiaSanMia).
As we already knew, Bayern Munich has long been infatuated with Wirtz and it is clear that he had been a target for the club since his mid-teens. Now, the time might actually come where Bayern Munich can actually get him during the summer.
