West Ham United were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
It was a disgraceful performance from West Ham – one that should have culminated in the sacking of Julen Lopetegui as far as I’m concerned.
The Hammers have made a woeful start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, and the football on display has been truly dire to watch.
Lopetegui seems to be confusing the West Ham players, rather than delivering coherent instructions to them.
The thing is, there is no clear end in sight to the rubbish we’ve witnessed so far this season.
The performance against Everton on Saturday should have been the final nail in Lopetegui’s coffin as far as I’m concerned.
But now the Premier League have me questioning everything I thought I knew…
West Ham fans won’t believe Premier League account’s X post
I’m sure that like me, you’re all still seething about the performance and result at the London Stadium on Saturday.
It simply wasn’t good enough, and the players will surely be aware of that as well.
Now though, I am genuinely doubting my own opinion on Saturday’s proceedings.
The Premier League’s official X account posed a question on Tuesday, asking whether Jordan Pickford’s display against the Hammers was the best goalkeeping performance of the season.
I have watched the game back, and I still don’t think we deserved to win.
Aside from the two Danny Ings shots inside the final 15 minutes, we actually didn’t properly test Pickford at all.
West Ham were far too passive throughout the 90 minutes, both with and without the football.
With 20 minutes left in the match, Everton had clearly settled for the draw, as their players tucked back in and sat deep.
That was where Lopetegui and his side should have seized the initiative, and really piled the pressure on the Toffees.
We never had any sustained momentum though, aside from the odd flourish here and there from our attacking players.
I think the Premier League’s post on X about Pickford was extremely flattering to West Ham – 0-0 was a more than fair result in my opinion.
