West Ham and Jarrod Bowen have felt very aggrieved by Lee Carsley’s decision to snub him for the last two England squads.
Rightly so too given the consistently high level of his performances for the Hammers.
Besides his goal and assist record – which is right up there with Bukayo Saka’s – Jarrod Bowen’s all-round statistics mean the West Ham captain should be one of the first names on any England squad list.
Do you know that only five English players in the Premier League have a better overall average match rating than West Ham’s talisman this season.
Yet Bowen was left out by interim England boss Lee Carsley for the second squad in a row.
It was only when the Three Lions were hit by a swathe of withdrawals that Bowen got the call.
There’s no ego about West Ham’s Prague hero, though.
Bowen gleefully accepted the invite and was at St George’s Park in a flash.
Because playing for England actually means something to Bowen.
West Ham star Bowen disgracefully treated by England man
Captain Harry Kane last night sensationally said it clearly doesn’t matter enough to some of those who have pulled out for important Nations League games against Greece and Ireland.
They include West Ham star Bowen’s direct rivals Saka, Cole Palmer, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden.
Hammers duo Max Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka can feel very hard done to not being in Carsley’s last squad of his pretty dismally handled spell in charge.
Especially in light of the nine withdrawals.
Neither Carsley or the FA has not handled the interim post well at all.
From saying he didn’t want the job, to not singing the national anthem and his shoddy treatment of West Ham’s eligible players to the FA giving Thomas Tuchel a start date of January.
Now disgracefully treated West Ham star Bowen is about to make England man Carsley look utterly ridiculous.
West Ham fans suddenly have an extra incentive to take interest in England’s matches tonight and on Monday.
Hammers hero to make Carsley look utterly ridiculous
And there is every chance Bowen can go from left out zero to starting hero over in Greece.
With no Saka, Palmer, Grealish or Foden West Ham’s top scorer surely must be in line to start against his club teammate Konstantinos Mavropanos.
In fact, given those absences, it would arguably be more of a shock if Bowen doesn’t start than the fact he was initially left out.
West Ham’s main man has been excellent every time he’s had a chance with England.
But many fans feel the “big six bias” that’s always been a problem with the national team, is holding Bowen back.
The only player who could keep Bowen out of the starting line-up is Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.
He’s a fine player but admitted himself recently he’s struggling for top form and has been substituted regularly for the Blues.
What better motivation for Bowen in Greece than to notch his first England goal to prove a point to one or two in that England setup, not least Carsley.
But also those who have cried off.
And West Ham fans will be lapping it up if he does.
Let’s hope a proper manager, summer Hammers target Thomas Tuchel, shows Bowen and West Ham’s other players the respect they deserve when he starts in January.
Possible England starting XI to face Greece:
Pickford, Walker, Konsa, Guehi, Lewis, Gomes, Gallagher, Bellingham; Gordon, Bowen, Kane.
