West Ham United have made plenty of transfer errors throughout the years.
However, this one might just take the biscuit as the very worst, by a long, long way.
West Ham made nine new signings in the summer transfer window, whilst 12 players left the London Stadium.
The Hammers board are said to be unhappy with some of the business conducted by Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten.
The most frustrating transfer fail in the summer was West Ham’s inability to sign a rapid centre-forward, with youth on his side.
Annoyingly, it seems like we had a great chance to do exactly that, but turned our noses up at it.
West Ham made a terrible transfer blunder with Jonathan David
Jonathan David has been on the Hammers’ radar for quite some time now.
At one point, it looked for all the world that he would join West Ham, with Juventus believing that we had won the race for his signature.
However, he remained with Lille in the end.
And now a really infuriating report has come to light regarding just how easily the Hammers could have signed David, if the owners actually wanted to.
According to a report from Give Me Sport, the West Ham owners were offered the chance to sign the 24-year-old striker in the summer, but they rejected that opportunity.
David has bagged an impressive 13 goals and two assists in 19 games for Lille so far this season (Transfermarkt).
Jonathan David was there for the taking for West Ham for just £30 million in the summer, and I cannot quite believe we rejected the chance to sign him.
The Canada international would have been perfect for us, what with his blistering pace, terrific movement and elite finishing ability.
I’m gobsmacked that we didn’t jump all over the chance to sign him for just £30 million.
West Ham refusing the chance to bring Jonathan David to the London Stadium was a terrible, terrible mistake as far as I’m concerned.
