There has been a longstanding tradition in the Champions League — whenever a big team visits a smaller one, the latter tends to charge away fans an exorbitant amount of money for tickets. Well, Bayern Munich fans have had enough of this. Taking a stand against price gouging, the club’s fan groups banded together and cancelled all their ticket reservations for the upcoming group stage game against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Bayern Munich took notice and decided to take the matter up with the Ukrainian club, who were set to play their home game in Gelsenkirchen (Schalke’s home ground).
Official: After talks with FC Bayern, Shakhtar has agreed to revise the ticket prices for Bayern fans for the Champions League match in Gelsenkirchen on December 10. Standing places now cost from 26€ instead of the previous 52€, while seats cost from 45€ instead of 105€ pic.twitter.com/5rwB3dpFle

Needless to say, this is a massive win for the fans, who will now pay prices 50% lower than what it otherwise would have been. Huge credit goes to the fan groups who organized the original boycott — they’ve shown the way forward for away Champions League games in the future.
