Swedish teenager Lucas Bergvall was one of many youngsters who arrived at Tottenham last summer as part of the club’s exciting new youth policy.
But Spurs have had a tough start to the season, and naturally, most of their players are having a trying time.
Lucas Bergvall opens up about struggles during debut Tottenham season
In a recent interview given to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall talked about, among other things, life in North London during his debut season at Hotspur Way.
“There have been many matches recently and a lot of rotations in the team. It still feels good. I’m getting warmed up. It’s been a bit up and down. It was a very good game against AZ and then a less good game, really, against Gala [Galatasaray].
“Yes, it’s clear that there is a lot I can take from that match [against Galatasaray]. It was a tough game for the whole team. We were not up to par.
“We have to do everything we can to improve for next time, because these are the kind of games you play in Europe. With an incredible setting, a lot of fans and a good opposing team.
“Especially us youngsters who haven’t played that many games in Europe can learn from it. It’s part of a career. It’s important to capitalise on it.”

The Swedish international has registered two assists from the ten appearances he has made this season for Tottenham across all competitions.
Bergvall will be fine
Lucas Bergvall is 18 years old. Not a lot needs to be made regarding the likelihood of him learning from his struggles, which have been arriving on the back of a very steep curve, and becoming a better player in the coming years.

Of course, since results need to be delivered in the here and now, people won’t want to talk about the teenage Swede needing at least two to three years of senior game time before he starts delivering on his promise, but as far as Tottenham’s youth policy under Technical Director Johan Lange is concerned, they are going to have to look at the bigger picture constantly.
