On Saturday night, Germany clinched first place in their Nations League group by obliterating Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the second minute, Germany captain Joshua Kimmich connected with his Bayern Munich teammate Jamal Musiala to open the scoring line. The German attack scored six more goals in the rout.
Midway through the second half, Kimmich went down in agony with an apparent ankle injury. After being treated by the medical staff, Kimmich limped off the pitch under his own power and was replaced by Robin Koch.
Given the agonizing screams that Kimmich made after the play, Bayern and Germany fans were very concerned about his health. After the match, Kimmich put those worries to rest.
“It’s not an injury,” said Kimmich (via @iMiaSanMia). “I wouldn’t have left the pitch after 60 minutes if there had been anything still at stake today.”
Kimmich added, “I want to play again in Hungary on Tuesday.”
Since officially being named the captain in September, Kimmich has led Germany to a five game undefeated streak. Today’s win was the first game all season that Kimmich did not play the full 90 minutes.
