Newcastle United are considering former Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham for the same role at their club, according to a report.
Craig Hope reports for the Daily Mail that Newcastle United are continuing their search for a new chief executive, and former Arsenal man Vinai Venkatesham is among the names in contention.
Venkatesham spent seven years at Arsenal, but he left the club earlier this year for a new challenge.
Newcastle are looking for a replacement for Darren Eales, following the confirmation of Eales’ blood cancer in September. Eales will stand down once a successor is appointed, though he’s still working for the club for the time being.
Venkatesham’s departure from Arsenal has come at the right time to make him an option for Newcastle, though he’s reportedly just one name in a thorough recruitment process.
Arsenal opted to replace Venkatesham by an internal promotion, with former director of football operations Richard Garlick taking on a new position as the club’s managing director.
Though the job description was slightly different, Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke confirmed that Garlick would be leading the club’s executive team.
Venkatesham was well-respected during his time with Arsenal and even received an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List in 2024. If Newcastle succeed in convincing him to join the club, it would surely be a strong appointment.
