West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen finally scored his first goal for England on Sunday evening, during the 5-0 rout of Ireland.
Jarrod Bowen received his call-up to the England squad after numerous different players pulled out, and the West Ham ace didn’t disappoint.
Bowen looked really good against Ireland on Sunday night, and he capped his performance off with a really well-taken goal.
Three Lions skipper Harry Kane raved about the Hammers forward after the game.
The 27-year-old was named as the West Ham club captain in the summer, so he has a lot more responsibility on his shoulders this season.
And whilst he might not have been anywhere near his best for the Hammers this term, he always puts in 100% effort.
Hopefully he will return to the London Stadium full of confidence after breaking his duck for the England national team.
However, things could have been so different it seems, had Bowen stuck to the plan.
Jarrod Bowen on what was meant to happen before England goal
The Three Lions topped the group last night with the 5-0 win over Ireland, and Bowen looked absolutely delighted after the match.
Fair play to him – he has worked so hard to get in the position that he’s in right now.
And I fully expect him to go from strength to strength for the Hammers and England over the next few years now.
Bowen spoke to ITV after the win over Ireland and his first goal for England.
He was visibly delighted, but made a big admission about what was supposed to go down just before his goal.
“Well, I was actually meant to take the free-kick“, Bowen explained. “Ashley Cole said you take the free-kick and put it front post. And then I got on the pitch and H and Jude had other ideas, and it worked perfectly. It was one of those where as soon as it left my boot I knew it was a good contact.“
I love the fact that things worked out for Jarrod Bowen last night, and he ended up scoring his first goal for England.
However, he now has to focus on producing his best form for West Ham again.
The Hammers need the 27-year-old forward to be firing on all cylinders, if we are to enjoy a successful campaign.
Jarrod Bowen must draw on England exploits
Jarrod Bowen proved last night that he’s good enough to make a difference at the very highest level of the game with his goal for England.
Hopefully there’s plenty more where that came from, but for West Ham over the next months.
If I’m being honest, I don’t think he should have been named club captain in the summer.
Bowen is a great player, but is in no way whatsoever a leader of men, and I feel like the extra responsibility is weighing heavily on his shoulders this season.
Hopefully he grows into the role of club captain over the next year or so.
One things’s for sure, his goal for England against Ireland should give him a real lift, and it might just raise his standing in the game.
Jarrod Bowen is an exceptional footballer, and I’m hoping that he’ll reach another level now, after his exploits for England.
