Fans recently claimed West Ham star Mohammed Kudus is cursed and they may be onto something after a new disaster.
For West Ham to have a successful season they need Mohammed Kudus at his brilliant best.
Indeed for Julen Lopetegui to survive as Hammers boss that is key.
It feels like things are unravelling at West Ham, though, with bad news following the club around like a bad smell this year.
West Ham have won just nine games in 2024 from 39 attempts.
The club sit 14 in the Premier League under new boss Lopetegui and are out of the League Cup.
There have been heavy defeats, fans have been leaving games early and the manager is under pressure to keep his job.
Very few Hammers players have covered themselves in glory.
There has also been indiscipline and dissent in the ranks, some of it very public indeed.
Kudus and Lopetegui had a bust-up at Brentford which saw the Ghana star hauled off at half-time.
The former Ajax man then had complete head loss at Spurs, getting a three-game ban which has since been extended to five matches.
That means Kudus will not be available again until the game against Leicester on December 3rd.
Cursed West Ham star Kudus at lowest ebb after new disaster
West Ham’s most talented player enjoyed a brilliant debut season with the Hammers, scoring 14 goals and laying on six assists.
It was punctuated by a dismal African Nations with his country at the start of 2024, though.
Despite climbing off the treatment table to single-handedly put Ghana on course to make it out of the group stages, Kudus saw his team throw it all away as they crashed out.
That cost ex Hammer Chris Hughton his job and resulted in a backlash against the team in Ghana.
Kudus started this season looking unplayable on the ball. He was doing everything but score for West Ham.
But he started to cut a frustrated figure at being played out of position on the left.
Many believe that was a contributing factor to the red mist descending in West Ham’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat at Spurs.
It emerged at his FA appeal hearing – where one panel member wanted to hand him a mammoth ban to send a deterrent to others – that Kudus was ‘stressed’ as a result of criticism in Ghana.
After bowing out of the group stage of the last AFCON, Ghana also dismally failed to even qualify for the next one.
The Hammers ace issues a grovelling apology for the form of the national team after angry backlashes.
Ghana fans even suggested Kudus is cursed since being handed the number 10 shirt and captaining the team.
Well maybe they were onto something.
Things go from bad to worse for star boy after late penalty miss
Because Cursed West Ham star Kudus is at lowest ebb after a new disaster and you couldn’t make it up.
Ghana have won just once in a year after a 1-1 draw with Angola on Friday was followed by a late 2-1 defeat at home to Niger this evening.
Kudus’ misery continued and then some.
West Ham’s attacking star, who has been linked with a summer move to Arsenal, captained Ghana again.
He then stepped up to take a last minute penalty for the Black Stars to salvage a draw.
But he saw his effort saved as the Hammer hit rock bottom.
Worse still as he waited to take the penalty, angry Ghana fans chanted ‘away’ – meaning miss – repeatedly to show their disdain with the performances and results.
The stadium then erupted as Ghana fans celebrated Kudus’ penalty miss in what’s been described as the biggest show of disapproval ever seen for the national team.
If West Ham were hoping Kudus might get a pick me up away with his national team then they were wrong.
The video shows just how utterly disconsolate Kudus looks.
Like a man who is going through the toughest period of his young career.
The problem is West Ham need him to hit the ground running when he comes back into the side.
Lopetegui certainly does, if he’s still in the job by then of course.
