Julen Lopetegui has named his West Ham United starting XI for today’s big game against Southampton.
West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui desperately needs a victory at St Mary’s this afternoon, and there is no excuse for not winning against Southampton.
The Saints may well be up for it today, with new manager Ivan Juric taking charge for the first time.
However, the Hammers have far superior quality to Southampton, and I’m expecting a comfortable win this afternoon.
Nothing less than three points will do, with games against Liverpool and Manchester City to come immediately after the Saints clash.
So how has Lopetegui set up his team for the big game?
West Ham starting XI vs Southampton confirmed
Every single one of the Hammers players need to show 100 per cent commitment at St Mary’s today.
Here’s how Lopetegui has set up his team, as confirmed by the club’s official X account.
Lukasz Fabianski, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Emerson Palmieri, Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek, Carlos Soler, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug
That seems like a strong team to me.
Carlos Soler comes into the side in place of the suspended Lucas Paqueta.
We should have more than enough going forward to cause the Saints’ defence big problems.
The key to winning the match will be to aggressively press Southampton high up the pitch, forcing them into turnovers.
Their defenders and goalkeeper have proven time and time again that they absolutely cannot cope with being pressed.
Hopefully the players in the West Ham starting XI selected by Lopetegui start the game on the front foot.
I’m going for a 3-1 West Ham win.
