O’Hara wants Postcoglou gone and Silva as replacement
Ange Postecoglou’s job as the Tottenham Hotspur is once again under severe scrutiny after the team’s 6-3 defeat to Liverpool was followed up with a Boxing Day loss against Nottingham Forest away from home. And while Spurs are incredibly understaffed due to injury issues, the former Celtic coach’s tactical stubbornness has seen questions being raised over his continuity at the club.
It is widely believed that Tottenham Hotspur’s delicate position in the Premier League standings could lead to the Australian’s dismissal if there is not a marked change in proceedings soon. Jamie O’Hara, formerly a Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, believes Postecoglou needs to go and has recommended Marco Silva as a potential replacement for the 59-year-old.
He was quoted saying the following by TBR Football.
“Do you know what? Carry on being stubborn, carry on doing what you’re doing, you’re going to get the sack. I don’t care what you say, I don’t care how far you go in the European competition or get into the final of the Carabao Cup, Premier League is where it’s at. You can’t be 11th in the table. I’m starting to come around to the fact that we should nick Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva. I want to nick him. He’s good. Do you know what they are? When I watch them, they are organised, got a structure to the team. They’ve got really good players – they haven’t got world-beaters – but they’ve got really good players. I might have to start putting it out there – Marco Silva for Spurs.”
Indeed, Postecoglou’s tactical outlook and taking more risks going forward than necessary have caused widespread frustration among the fans as well. However, it is important to note that his profile has yielded him success elsewhere and is also responsible for the team’s comfortable position in the Carabao Cup and Europa League.
The Premier League, strangely enough in the case of a perennial under-performer like Tottenham, continues to be the landmark for a manager’s performances in spite of not being backed with adequate resources. Postecoglou, having lost more matches than he has won in the English top flight this season, may pay the price for the board’s incompetence once more.
