Tottenham suffered a ninth defeat of the Premier League season on Boxing Day
Tottenham Hotspur suffered their fourth defeat in five Premier League games on Thursday evening, losing 1-0 away to Nottingham Forest. Anthony Elanga’s 28-minute strike was the difference in the end between the two sides.
Spurs’ games have been hugely entertaining and rained goals in recent weeks, with 22 in their past four outings. It’s the frantic manner of their games which have captivated the neutrals, but they remain 11th in the table with more losses than wins this season – and that has seen Ange Postecoglou come under immense pressure.
It must be acknowledged that the North Londoners are without three key players in their backline in Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. However, the Australian’s refusal to adopt a more pragmatic approach, as a consequence, has not done him any favours. Instead, he has stuck to his attacking ideals and still has his team playing out from the back and far too open regardless of not having the personnel to do so.

Former England and Spurs goalkeeper Joe Hart has shared an insight into Postecoglou’s managerial style after the defeat to Nottingham Forest at City Ground. The 37-year-old, who worked under the Greek-Aussie tactician at Celtic, gave an idea of how he manages his team.
“Ange requires everyone to be singing from the same hymn sheet,” Joe Hart told BBC Match of the Day (h/t Tottenham News)
“He’ll be analytical, the meetings pre and post-match are very important in the way he works with his team.
“He’s not necessarily one to sit down and have conversations. There will be the dreaded ring around you when things are going wrong, in that meeting room.
“Spurs players are going to have to take some harsh criticism but ultimately he’s going to want to play the good football we know they are capable of, more consistently.”
Big Ange has been overseeing an injury crisis this season, with the defence being severely hit. The 59-year-old’s persistence on playing open, enterprising and attacking football has attracted criticism, but when it works, it works wonders.

This has produced hugely inconsistent results with big victories over Manchester City, Manchester United, West Ham and Aston Villa being overshadowed by gut-wrenching losses to Ipswich Town, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Currently in 11th place and 10 points adrift of the top four spots, Big Ange will have to improve results wise otherwise he could be the latest manager to lose his job. He will be desperate for a stirring reaction from his boys against Wolves, who have enjoyed a new manager bounce under Vitor Pereira with two wins in as many games.
