A top West Ham source has shed light on transfer speculation, denying reports that the Hammers are planning a big-money move for a central defender in the next transfer window.
West Ham have been linked with a £25m bid for former Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori, along with other Europe-based defenders. Rumours have intensified since Max Kilman’s £40m shoulder injury against Southampton, leading some ITKs to predict the Hammers would enter the market for defensive cover.
However, a senior London Stadium insider told Claret & Hugh this lunchtime that signing a centre-back is not part of the club’s January plans.
C&H approached a top-level source at the club to separate fact from fiction as the rumour mill spins into overdrive. When asked about potential CB cover, the insider responded: “Not really, unless one of our three gets a big injury. Alvarez plays CB for Mexico, and we have a great academy central defender [Casey].”
The update is positive news for academy talent Kaelan Casey and Max Kilman, whose injury does not appear too severe. Full confirmation on Kilman’s condition is expected later today.
Meanwhile, a new striker remains the club’s top priority for the January transfer window.
