West Ham United desperately need to sign a new striker this summer, with Julen Lopetegui and David Sullivan already having discussed the issue.
David Sullivan appointed Julen Lopetegui as the new West Ham manager in the summer, after David Moyes’s four-and-a-half year reign at the London Stadium came to an end.
Sullivan backed Lopetegui to the hilt in the summer transfer market, but the Spaniard and Tim Steidten still failed to address glaringly obvious deficiencies in the squad, despite spending more than £120 million.
The Hammers have been linked with numerous players already ahead of the January window, with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin apparently on our radar.
One thing’s for sure, we cannot afford to head into the second half of the season without bringing in a proven goalscorer.
We’re desperately short in the centre-forward department.
And now there has been a big update on our chances of bringing in a new striker this winter.
Julen Lopetegui and David Sullivan showdown talks
The Hammers owner has a couple of very big decisions to make over the course of the next month or so.
Firstly, does he keep Lopetegui at the London Stadium or not? If he does, should he then provide more transfer funds for the Spaniard?
Lopetegui’s job seems to be safe for now, so he may well get another transfer window to strengthen his ranks.
And talks are said to be already underway about potential targets.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Lopetegui is in talks with Sullivan about potential January targets.
It is said that a new striker is right at the top of Lopetegui’s wish-list.
It’s no surprise really is it, with Michail Antonio expected to be out of action for at least 12 months after being involved in a horrific car accident.
Niclas Fullkrug seems to be well off the pace in the Premier League, whilst Danny Ings clearly isn’t the man for the job.
The addition of a new striker will be an absolute must in January, if West Ham are to enjoy a successful season on all fronts.
Quite who that man will be remains to be seen though.
