Even before Michail Antonio’s awful car accident, the recruitment of a new striker had been vital at London Stadium. With Niclas Fullkrug’s injury and much publicised ‘difficulty settling’ in London, the search for another frontman has been the subject of constant speculation.
Only last week, we reported that West Ham had seen their €30 million (£25million) bid for Brazilian Yuri Alberto knocked back by his club Corinthians. Now it seems the negotiations are getting even tougher as another suitor plans to compete with West Ham for Alberto’s signature.
Nottingham Forest, being the surprise package of this season’s Premier League, suddenly find themselves with enormous pulling power, sitting within the Champions League spots at present. The Nottingham Post reports:“Bringing in a forward will be top of the Reds’ agenda next month as they look to bolster head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s attacking options during the January transfer window. Brazilian Alberto is one of the strikers the club have been credited with an interest in. “
“Previous reports from Brazil suggested a £19 million transfer bid could be in the offing from Forest.”
They’ll need to do better, West Ham’s bid of £25 million was knocked back some weeks ago (Claret and Hugh 19th December).
Quite how big the lure of – potentially – playing in the Champions League will prove for Alberto will be seen in the next few weeks as both clubs vie for his services. If West Ham offer millions more to his club then – I guess he’ll go where Corinthians choose. Money talks, after all.
