West Ham United lost 5-0 to Liverpool at the London Stadium on Sunday evening.
It was obviously a terrible result, but the manner in which Liverpool turned West Ham over was arguably even worse.
David Sullivan and Karren Brady were visibly unhappy in the stands during the embarrassing defeat against the Reds.
Julen Lopetegui is surely a dead man walking now, especially given the fact that we play Manchester City, Aston Villa (twice), Fulham and Crystal Palace in our next five games.
The Spaniard should have been sacked after the full-time whistle in my opinion, but that obviously didn’t happen.
The sooner he is moved on the better in my opinion.
However, a new claim has just been made that means whoever comes into the club to replace him could face a seriously big issue.
Concerning West Ham claim after 5-0 Liverpool defeat
It feels like we are approaching rock bottom as a football club right now.
However, in typical West Ham fashion, it seems like we’re not even close to scratching the surface!
That’s because The Times have made a brand new claim that pertains to our summer transfer activity.
The British broadsheet claims that the Hammers’ £100 million net spend in the summer came with big consequences.
Obviously we know that that money wasn’t particularly well spent.
The Hammers failed to sign a young striker with explosive pace and there was a huge oversight when it came to adding pace, power and athleticism to the central midfield department.
However, things could be even worse than first feared.
That’s because The Times claim that the summer spend included using part of next summer’s budget in advance.
What a big mistake that could be.
It means that if Lopetegui is sacked, the new manager coming in to replace him won’t have lavish funds to embark on a squad rebuild in January or next summer.
That would be disastrous, and it could prove to be a big stumbling block for us when holding talsk with potential replacements for the Spaniard.
West Ham’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool proved just how much we need some new players, but it seems like we will have to sell before we can buy.
What a mess the Hammers are in right now.
