West Ham United face a big problem with Mohammed Kudus, but that issue should be embraced rather than feared.
Mohammed Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for around £38 million.
He has been an elite player for the Hammers since moving to the London Stadium.
The former Ajax star has been nowhere near his best for us this season, but that has been mostly down to the fact that he is being played out of position on the left wing.
Arsenal are being linked with a mega-money £100 million swoop for Kudus in the January window.
If the Gunners don’t sign him this month, I’m sure they will come in for him in the summer.
Losing Kudus is understandably a really scary thought.
However, what if moving on the Ghanaian could be the start of something special for West Ham?
Mohammed Kudus evil should be embraced by West Ham
If a new manager comes into the London Stadium to replace Lopetegui, which I’m sure will happen imminently, he will want to mould the squad into his vision.
Selling Kudus will be a sure fire way to provide whoever the new manager is with some serious transfer funds.
The Ghana international has been nowhere near his best this season.
If I’m honest, I don’t think his work-rate has been where it should, and he’s clearly not happy at the London Stadium right now (Daily Mail).
I’m seeing so many West Ham fans worried about losing Kudus but here’s the thing, I think selling him could be better for us in the long run.
Don’t get me wrong, Kudus is a sensational player and he has been brilliant for us over the past 16 months.
However, is he worth £85 million or more? Not right now as far as I’m concerned.
The 24-year-old is far from the finished article and still has a lot of things to work on.
He holds onto the ball for far too long at times and his decision making inside the final third is questionable to say the least.
Mohammed Kudus is obviously an important player for West Ham, but selling him for £100 million this month, or £85 million in the summer would provide the new manager will a real boost to his transfer kitty.
West Ham rebuild must start with Kudus sale
It could be argued that right wing and the number 10 role – Kudus’s two best positions – are the areas where West Ham are actually fairly well stocked.
The Hammers desperately need to bolster our goalkeeping ranks, defence – both the centre-back and full-back positions, and the central midfield departments.
Oh, and we desperately need to sign a new striker as well.
In this day and age, making all of those signings will not come cheap.
We have an incredibly unbalanced squad at the London Stadium right now, and whoever does replace Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium needs to inject some real pace and youth into the team.
West Ham selling Mohammed Kudus to refund the much-needed rebuild should be embraced rather than feared. In fact, it is a necessary evil.
I order for all of this to work, we need to give full power to Tim Steidten, or if the board don’t fancy the German, then bring someone else in to take over from him.
