Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel is sorely in need of more playing time. But despite some noise about a loan and plenty of interested parties, it does not look like the 19-year-old will be leaving Bavaria in the January transfer window.
From transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano:
Long direct talk took place today between Mathys Tel and Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany.
No chances for Mathys to leave on loan in January despite links, position 100% confirmed.
Kompany confirmed to Tel his full trust for the rest of the season and long term.
BFW Analysis
Mathys Tel has not had the best time since arriving in Munich at the age of only 17. A young, bright talent with a rocket of a shot, Tel has faced numerous hurdles — two coaching changes, overcrowded attacking ranks filled with much more senior players, and constant shuffling of his position, with most of his opportunity coming at the wings rather than at the striker position he was originally signed for. And he himself must bear some responsibility for his development.
But Tel’s importance to Bayern cannot be understated. This is a team in need of finding its next generation players in attack. Whether his future lies on the wings or at the No. 9 under Vincent Kompany, it is a good sign that the new coach has faith in him. Now to see whether he can carve himself the opportunity.
