According to a report from Sport Bild, Bayern Munich is staying closely tied to Florian Wirtz as he works through negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen.
While the summer of 2025 could be off the table for a move to Bayern Munich, the club does not want to risk missing on Wirtz (again) in 2026:
Florian Wirtz’s (21) contract has still not been extended beyond 2027. But the trend seems clear. The attacking star will stay at Bayer for another year and prepare for the 2026 World Cup in his usual and familiar surroundings.
Exciting: Unlike the transfer attempt in 2022 – Wirtz signed the current five-year contract at that time – the Bayern bosses are said to be involved in the considerations this time.
Honorary President Uli Hoeneß (72) in particular maintains a very close relationship with the Wirtz family. While decisions are looming for Joshua Kimmich (tendency: contract extension) and Leroy Sané (tendency: extension only with salary cuts), more patience may be required for Wirtz.
In some ways, Bayern Munich is catering to Wirtz in a way that is very uncommon for the club. However, knowing that Bayern Munich is desperately coveting Wirtz, it is no surprise that the club’s higher-ups (and legends like Uli Hoeneß) are not going to let the Germany international slip through their fingers once more.
