West Ham fans are once again demanding that Julen Lopetegui is sacked after conceding nine goals in heavy defeats to Man City and Liverpool.
When West Ham put in shambolic performances to lose 5-2 and 3-1 against Arsenal and Leicester, supporters had seen enough.
There had already been calls for Julen Lopetegui to be fired following the 4-1 defeat at Spurs in October and the fortunate 0-0 draw at home to Everton going into the November international break.
The Spaniard survived those and was then handed another reprieve after Leicester.
That was despite West Ham’s hardcore away support turning on Lopetegui for the first time.
Chants of ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ rang out at the King Power that night.
The 58-year-old wasn’t, though, as David Sullivan elected to give the manager one more chance.
West Ham somehow picked up two extremely lucky wins over woeful Wolves and Southampton either side of fortunate draws against Bournemouth and Brighton.
The Hammers could and should have lost all four games as the team’s poor performances continued.
When West Ham faced Liverpool and Man City, they were not as charitable with their finishing.
West Ham respond to chants for Lopetegui to be sacked
Both teams punished Lopetegui’s side, who have now conceded three goals or more on nine separate occasions under him.
That’s despite spending £87m on three new defenders in the summer.
As Man City became the latest to expose Lopetegui, supporters made their feelings clear yet again.
Hammers fans chanted ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ at Lopetegui as West Ham went 3-0 and then 4-0 down at the Etihad.
But will he be?
Now West Ham have responded to chants for Lopetegui to be sacked as the season hinges on Aston Villa.
As well as the loyal away following turning on the manager once again, social media has also been awash with demands that Sullivan and co take action.
Especially as West Ham’s season now rests entirely on the FA Cup clash away at Aston Villa on Friday night.
Out of the Carabao Cup after a 5-1 pummelling by Liverpool, West Ham’s Premier League campaign is now all but over too.
The Hammers are marooned in no man’s land with midtable mediocrity the best the club can hope for.
West Ham are in no real danger of being sucked into a relegation battle. But they also now sit 10 points off the stated aim of a European spot.
Meanwhile clubs like Forest, Bournemouth, Brighton and Fulham are showing the Hammers up.
Hammers state obvious as season hinges on Villa
To add to the frustration, this is the most wide open Premier League season for 12 years.
But any chance to take advantage of that fact has been wasted by West Ham.
Hammers News has spoken to the top spokesman for West Ham’s owners about the situation.
It was put to the owners that another capitulation was hugely disappointing and worrying yet again.
Especially as it felt like Man City were there for the taking.
We also put it to the owners that fans were chanting for the manager to be sacked and that the FA Cup was now looking like the only thing left to play for this season.
The club’s four-word response will do little to appease angry supporters.
“We have to improve,” the spokesman for West Ham’s owners told Hammers News.
Lopetegui ‘under further pressure’ says West Ham insider
That’s stating the obvious.
It has been the case all season.
Top Hammers insider Sean Whetstone has also spoken to the club about the situation.
West Ham’s response to him also stated the blindingly obvious fact ‘West Ham look far too fragile’.
“Julen Lopetegui remains in post this evening and into next week as West Ham’s head coach but is under further pressure,” Whetstone said.
“We are letting in too many goals and look far too fragile.”
If West Ham lose at Villa in the FA Cup, the club faces 18 matches with little but pride and money for league positions to play for between now and May.
