Elon Musk’s father is claiming his son is interested in buying Premier League club Liverpool, citing the family’s ties to the city.
Billionaire Elon Musk tweeted in August 2022 that he was going to buy Manchester United. However, he later said the comment was a joke but added that United would be his choice if he purchased a team because he supported them as a boy.
Now, the elder Musk has caused a stir by saying his son – whose business interests include space technology, the automotive industry, and social media – would like to take over Manchester United’s archrivals instead. Liverpool are owned by John W. Henry’s Fenway Sports Group.
“He would like to, yes, obviously,” Errol Musk told Times Radio’s Kait Borsay. “Anybody would want to – so would I.”
He added: “His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a few of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we’re attached to Liverpool.”
Errol initially seemed reluctant to reveal his son’s apparent interest in Liverpool, saying he feared the Fenway Sports Group would “raise the price.”
