Here are some questions we want to ask Stephen – what about you?
You coached Phil Foden – who are our budding Foden’s? Is Mathew really plugged into the Academy? What is the Robert Rowan inheritance? Alan Hansen said: “You can’t win anything with kids!” right or wrong? My little boy is only 8 can he get into the academy? Are young footballers more temperamental than first teamers? Please note that once you have registered you will receive a confirmation email from Zoom which will be sent after the 7th of January.

STEPHEN TORPEY
Phil Giles, Director of Football
“ Building the BFC Academy is the next and most critical part of Brentford’s journey. Our aim is for the BFC Academy to be admired as the most caring and progressive Football Academy in the World. A keystone to that ambition is the appointment of Academy Director Stephen Torpey who I believe is a truly world class appointment and will be a major asset to the club for years to come.”
A £50m five year investment commitment into the Jersey road training facility is but one further step on the journey for Brentford FC. Having won promotion to the Premier League, the club are now on a steep, unprecedented, trajectory of standing up an Academy from scratch to being recognised as a Category 2 Academy, from the start of this season (with ambitions in due course to be a Category 1 facility).
While the vision belongs to the whole club: the owner Matthew Benham, Director of Football Phil Giles, Thomas Frank, and the entire Academy staff and the day to day team all share the responsibility, for driving the next generation of talent to reach its full potential which now sits with Academy Director Stephen Torpey.
With over 20 years in elite coaching on his CV, an England shirt at youth level and formerly with Liverpool and Manchester City – his aim is to see if Brentford can find its own Trent Alexander-Arnold, Cole Palmer or Phil Foden.
We are delighted that Stephen will be our guest speaker (after conclusion of the formal business of the BU AGM) and will share his thoughts and experience – and answer some questions live on the night – with BU Members”
Get your questions ready for Stephen and add them to the AGM registration zoom page!
