Tottenham considering entering the race for Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen
Tottenham Hotspur will have to reinforce various areas of the squad in this January transfer window after an underwhelming first half of the season.
The Lilywhites have started well by acquiring the services of highly-rated goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague. Owing to their defensive crisis, with Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies all still injured, a centre-back appears to be on top of the club’s agenda. Furthermore, the North Londoners could do well by fortifying their attacking unit.
Club insider Paul O Keefe has revealed that Ange Postecoglou has demanded the Hotspur Way chiefs bring in a versatile forward. While Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani has been subject to aggressive links with Spurs in the last couple of weeks, another versatile forward looks to have emerged on the club’s radar.

According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are eyeing a move for Donyell Malen, who is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund this month. However, Aston Villa are currently frontrunners for the Borussia Dortmund forward’s signature with negotiations between both clubs already underway.
Donyell Malan has blown hot and cold since joining Borussia Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in July 2021. The Netherlands international arrived at Dortmund amid a lot of fanfare surrounding him. However, he has struggled to live up to the expectations of the Signal Iduna Park faithful while only producing flashes of brilliance in the last three and a half years.
Yet, the 25-year-old remains a man in demand with both Tottenham and Aston Villa vying for his signature. The aforementioned report adds there remains distance in the attacker’s valuation between Villa and Dortmund, which could leave room for other interested clubs in being able to hijack a move.
Spurs are now discussing internally whether or not to concretely enter the race for Malen’s signature. They broke the club transfer record during the past summer transfer window by signing Dominic Solanke from Premier League rivals Bournemouth. While Solanke has performed well, he has not had enough rest and recovery period owing to Richarlison’s injury problems.

This has perhaps led to the Hotspur Way chiefs attempting to bring in an attacker who can not only compete with Solanke but also operate anywhere across the front. Malen, in that regard, fits the profile perfectly. The Dutchman has the mixture of pace, flair, creativity and dynamism to thrive in Big Ange’s high-octane system. He could also be a fantastic option to rotate with Son Heung-min, who has started showing signs of slowing down of late.

With an agreement yet to be finalised between Villa and Dortmund, Spurs must consider entering the negotiations strongly for Malen and try luring him back to North London, where he spent the formative years of his career with our rivals Arsenal.
