Bayern Munich’s goalkeeping shuffle continues. Once the designated goalkeeper-in-waiting behind Manuel Neuer, Alexander Nübel now looks likelier to continue his career elsewhere — at VfB Stuttgart, perhaps?
Nübel, 28, will have to prove his mettle once again on loan next season, as Manuel Neuer looks set to receive an extension — according to Az journalist Kilian Kreitmair, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Although he had been designated as ‘heir to Manuel Neuer’s throne’, Alexander Nübel is now by no means certain of being Neuer’s successor. Bayern want to wait and see how Nübel performs at Stuttgart next season. Only then will a final decision be made [@KilianKreit]
It’s not easy waiting around for the GOAT to retire. Neuer, 38, is now on a year-to-year basis for Bayern, but sticking around even one more season is bound to leave the situation with Nübel in a delicate spot. Having arrived from Schalke as a younger keeper, Nübel is now at a point where he needs to be be a No. 1 somewhere. And continual loans, with his future uncertain year after year, is a situation that is unlikely to cut it for much longer.
