It appears Everton Football Club have chosen not to go through a lengthy process of replacing sacked manager Sean Dyche, and have selected former boss David Moyes to return.
The Friedkin Group, who recently completed their takeover of the Toffees after obtaining the holdings of former majority shareowner Farhad Moshiri, made a similar move at AS Roma as well with bringing in veteran manager Claudio Ranieri to stabilize the club after the sacking of fan favorite and former player Daniele De Rossi.
Multiple media sources are claiming that the deal to bring Moyes back is already done with the club working on an announcement imminently on a two and a half year contract. The Scotsman managed the Blues from 2002 to 2013, qualifying for the Champions League and taking the club to an FA Cup Final in that time.
Moyes left the club in contentious manner after accepting the position at Manchester United following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, but was sacked there after just ten months.
Two short stints at Real Sociedad and Sunderland followed before he took over at West Ham United in November 2017, leading the club out of the relegation zone to a 13th place finish. His contract at Upton Park was not renewed, but he would then return in December 2019 after Manuel Pellegrini was sacked, and led the Hammers to their first trophy in 43 years winning the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League. He left West Ham at the end of last season.
With the Blues about to leave Goodison Park at the end of the season and ready to usher in a new era at the Bramley-Moore dock, it’s somewhat fitting that they are bringing back the manager under whom they have had the most stability in recent times.
More to come.
