Hammers News have compiled our West Ham United player ratings for the FA Cup clash with Aston Villa on Friday night.
West Ham were so much better tonight in pretty much every single department, and the players clearly raised their levels for the FA Cup clash with Aston Villa in order to make a statement to new manager Graham Potter.
The Hammers fans are all so much more hopeful tonight than they were this time last week.
Despite the defeat to Villa, the boys put in a top-class performance, certainly during the first two thirds of the game.
Potter would have been delighted with the effort and application of his players.
It’s very much onwards and upwards for us now.
But how did the players fare individually?
West Ham player ratings vs Aston Villa
Lukasz Fabianski 7
The 39-year-old was solid between the sticks once again for West Ham against Villa. He was confident when claiming crosses and marshalled his back-line very well.
Aaro Wan-Bissaka 7
A solid display from Wan-Bissaka. He definitely wasn’t as advanced under Potter as he was with Lopetegui in charge, and that’s exactly the way it should be.
Max Kilman 8
The 27-year-old put in good all-round performance tonight. He was calm and confident with the ball at his feet and he dealt with Ollie Watkins very well on the most part.
Konstantinos Mavropanos 7.5
A much improved performances from the Greek centre-back. If he can eradicate the errors that always seem to creep into his game, he will be a really important player for us.
Ollie Scarles 8
What a performance from the teenager. We have a real star on our hands here don’t we. Scarles oozed confidence in possession of the football and defended with aplomb.
Edson Alvarez 7
A decent performance from Alvarez, but I still want to see more from him if I’m honest.
Lucas Paqueta 9
The Brazilian absolutely oozed class for the Hammers against Villa. He scored our opener and looked so comfortable playing in the inside left channel. He clearly still has so much to offer us.
Tomas Soucek 7
A really solid performance from the 29-year-old, especially defensively. He actually kept his passing very simple today and didn’t look out of place in the middle of the park at all.
Mohammed Kudus 8
Tonight was the best Kudus has looked this season. He was a constant menace out wide on the right and through the middle. The way that he was interchanging positions with Crysencio Summerville was a joy to watch.
Crysencio Summerville 8.5
What a fantastic performance that was from the 23-year-old tonight. His pace and energy was infectious and he did brilliantly well to set up Paqueta for the opening goal tonight. He had to go off at half-time though, so let’s hope it was more of a preventative measure rather than anything more serious.
Niclas Fullkrug 5
The German has proven to be a disastrous signing for the Hammers, nothing more, nothing less. He left the field after just 15 minutes tonight with a nasty looking hamstring injury, and his future at the London Stadium seems really bleak right now.
Subs:
Danny Ings 6
The 32-year-old didn’t do enough tonight for me. We all know he hasn’t got any pace but his positioning and anticipation weren’t anywhere near his usual levels.
Vladimir Coufal 6
The Czech Republic international was very average after coming on at half-time.
Aaron Cresswell 6.5
He was actually not bad at all when he came on, but he’s clearly not of the required standard any more.
Carlos Soler NA
Luis Guilherme NA
In conclusion, I think there were so many positive signs from the West Ham players against Aston Villa.
The movement was on another level, and guess what, there actually were discernible patterns of play on display from the boys!
I genuinely believe that the future will be very bright with Graham Potter at the helm.
Numerous Hammers players looked like completely different animals tonight, but we just ran out of gas in the end.
The West Ham player ratings above were reflective of a very strong performance overall, in spite of the end result.
