Tottenham have triggered a one-year extension in Son Heung-min’s contract to extend his stay until 2026
Tottenham Hotspur exercised a one-year contract extension for Son Heung-min earlier this week, extending their skipper’s stay at the club until the summer of 2026.
Speculation about the future of Son Heung-min had become rife in recent weeks and months as he entered the final year of his contract at White Hart Lane. The forward has been linked with Manchester United and Atletico Madrid among several clubs, as the European duo perhaps viewed the South Korean as an ideal target to strengthen their squads without splashing big transfer fees.
Having joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015, the 32-year-old has become a modern-day great for the club and one of the bankable superstars in South Asia. With 169 strikes in 432 appearances, he is currently the fourth-highest goalscorer in the North London club’s history.

However, former Brentford boss Martin Allen has tipped Tottenham to cash in on their captain at the end of the season but thinks he is worth just £10m-15m.
“He’s been a fantastic player for Tottenham and he’s admired by fans of all teams,” Clive Allen exclusively told Tottenham News.
“I think it is fair to say that he is starting to slow down, he hasn’t got the same energy and pace that he once had and of course, once that happens it is best for clubs to sell.
“In the summer, I think he’ll be a player that Spurs look to move on after what has been a great career. I think a lot of clubs be interested in him.
“What would he be worth? He’s maybe a £10m-15m player. It would also depend on his contract because that will have an impact on the fee.“

Son has been a brilliant servant for Spurs but he started showing signs of slowing down since the last year. Even though he ended the 2023/24 campaign with 17 goals and 10 assists, the South Korean star’s performances were not consistent for periods. And this season has seen his productivity tumble with only seven strikes and six assists in 24 games.

Losing the experienced forward for nothing would have been a big blow for the North Londoners. Extending Son’s stay doesn’t necessarily secure his future at the club, and if Tottenham receive a sizeable fee in the summer, cashing him in and replacing him with a young attacker would make a lot of sense.
