Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was happy seeing his team take down Gladbach over the weekend, but is wary of playing a desperate Hoffenheim squad just a few days later.
“Hoffenheim have always been interesting in their squad planning, with young players who are also capable of making their mark in Europe. They have a new coach who’s been very successful. I have great respect for the fact he broke Salzburg’s dominance with Sturm Graz in Austria. It’s a mixture that gives Hoffenheim prospects. But we’re playing at home, we have the clear goal of winning,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
One player who did not take part in Bayern Munich’s win over Gladbach was Jamal Musiala, who missed the match with an illness. The coach did not give any hint about Musiala’s status, despite the player attending team training on Monday.
“It’s not certain yet that he’ll be there at all. We have to wait for the final training. It would already be positive if he makes the squad,” said Kompany.
Finally, Kompany wanted to give credit to Bayern Munich midfielder, who the coach indicated has been making the most of his opportunity for more playing time.
“The performance against Gladbach was simply good, which makes it easy to praise every player, they deserve it. The important thing is that we can use the squad. We needed Leon, he did an outstanding job. That doesn’t mean that another player didn’t do well. It’s not so important to me who plays tomorrow or in the next 10 games. The most important thing is the team’s performance,” Kompany noted.
It will be interesting to see if Goretzka retains his starting role or if Aleksandar Pavlović will get the nod.
