Justin Kluivert revealed his delight at overtaking his legendary father’s scoring record at St James’ Park after bagging a hat-trick in Bournemouth‘s shock 4-1 win over Newcastle.
The Dutchman produced another electric showing as he returned to the Cherries starting XI by scoring three brilliant strikes with his final effort a wicked shot from range.
Kluivert’s mesmerising dribbling and creativity made it a nightmare afternoon for Newcastle’s defenders who were helpless to stop Bournemouth putting a damning end to their nine-match winning streak.
His father, Patrick, previously played one season for Newcastle after joining on a free transfer in 2004 having left Barcelona and went on to make 37 appearances for the club.
Kluivert Snr netted 13 goals during his brief spell in the Premier League, but only found the back of the net once at St James’ Park, with his son overtaking that tally in dominant fashion on Saturday.

‘For sure, for sure [I’ll be winding him up]. It’s lovely to hear those kind of things, you know,’ Kluivert told TNT Sports.
‘I just want to help my team out to win games and to be important for the for the club. I’m happy with the match ball and the win for sure.
‘This feels lovely, we know how tough it is to play here with the long win streak they had.
‘[Newcastle] are a great team, but to come here with a lot of injuries that we have and dominate like this, hats off to the team, really,’ he added.
The 25-year-old was buoyed by Bournemouth’s deserved win that moves them up to sixth in the Premier League standings and level on 37 points with Chelsea.
It also extends the south coast side’s unbeaten streak to 11 matches with Bournemouth beating Spurs, Man United, and Newcastle during that run.

Confidence is sky high within the club’s ranks and Kluivert believes the priority now had to be qualifying for European football next season.
‘I’m an ambitious person, there’s a lot of ambitious players in the team. The has a great recruiting like those kind of players that have a lot of ambition and I think you see that in how we speak about, yeah,’ he continued.
‘We want to play in Europe, we want to be the best that we can. And I think we show that, so why not? Why not dream big and let’s see where we can end up.
‘Who knows? The ball is always round like we say in Holland, so you never know where we can go,’ said the Cherries star.
