Manchester City could be set to deal a major blow to West Ham United in the January transfer window.
Graham Potter has so much work to do at West Ham in the January window, with numerous new additions required.
The Hammers head coach has made it very clear that he wants to make some new signings this month.
However, he has also urged caution, suggesting that it will be tough to bring new players into the London Stadium.
West Ham currently have Michail Antonio, Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen all out injured, with the latter the only one expected to return to action anytime soon.
Potter cannot afford to exit this window without signing a proven striker.
There are plenty of options out there available this month, if the board are prepared to back the 49-year-old of course.
One man in particular is absolutely perfect for us, but now we face a really big problem according to one report out in France.
Man City to ruin West Ham’s dream January striker signing hopes
Hammers head coach Potter is desperately on the hunt to add some real quality and pace to his ranks in the forward positions this month.
Without some more speed up front, West Ham will struggle make any kind of real progress during the second half of the season.
And unfortunately Man City could be about to scupper one of Potter’s key transfer plans.
Manchester City are closing in on a deal to sign Omar Marmoush, 25, from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £60 million (talkSPORT).
And that’s really bad news for the Hammers.
That’s because L’Equipe are claiming that Eintracht Frankfurt are set to challenge the Hammers for the signing of Marseille hitman Elye Wahi, with Marmoush set to join Man City.
Frankfurt may well have the upper hand over the Hammers in the race for his signature, with Europa League football on offer at Deutsche Bank Park.
West Ham are said to have already made contact to sign the ‘phenomenal’ striker this month.
I was very hopeful of Potter being able to secure a deal to bring the fleet-footed forward to East London in the January window.
Now not so much…
West Ham must go all out for Elye Wahi
Wahi is absolutely perfect for the Hammers, and we should be doing everything in our power to sign him this winter.
The 22-year-old possesses blistering pace, and he would be a huge threat in behind for us.
The young Frenchman has incredible movement and is an extremely good finisher.
He has scored 39 Ligue 1 goals since the start of the 2021/22 season, with his best tally coming in the 2022/23 season when he bagged 19 in 33 outings (Transfermarkt).
Elye Wahi is exactly the kind of striker West Ham should be signing, and the Hammers owners have to find a way of getting a deal for him over the line before the January transfer window slams shut.
He could be available for just £21 million as well (L’Equipe) – an absolute bargain deal in this day and age.
However, Manchester City’s blockbuster deal to sign Omar Marmoush hasn’t done us any favours at all in our pursuit of the Marseille forward.
