Tottenham Hotspur have been vying to bring in a new midfielder this winter window, and the North Londoners have been subject to links with Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, with the Man City academy graduate ready to return to England following his high-profile switch from Aston Villa to Juventus, which didn’t work out quite well for the 26-year-old.
Prospects of Luiz at Tottenham
Luiz is not only a physical presence at the base of the midfield but also has the capacity to move the game through him with not only horizontal but also vertical (between the lines) passes. And the Brazil international would be an interesting addition to the options at N17, given how Ange Postecoglou has been craving such dynamics in his roster for a while.
However, Spurs pursuit of the former Villa midfielder suffered a blow when Manchester City entered the race to attain his services. Though the Premier League champions do remain on a standpoint of a plain loan over Juventus’ loan with an obligation to purchase a clause.
Arsenal enter race
Now, the Lilywhites arch-rivals, Arsenal, are also said to be entering the race for the 26-year-old’s signature, with Mikel Arteta’s side preparing for the departures of Jorginho and Thomas Partey. While the Gunners are expecting Martin Zubimendi to arrive when the summer comes around, they are also looking for further reinforcements, and RTIE Sporte insists Luiz to be on their radar.
This will not be the first time that Douglas Luiz is linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. He has been subject to intensive links to Arsenal in a couple of transfer windows before his eventual move to Juventus.
