Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is under pressure ahead of the home game against Leicester
Tottenham Hotspur’s rollercoaster season continues to deliver its ups and downs, with the club royally struggling in the Premier League and performing well in cup competitions.
Spurs sit a lowly 15th in the Premier League table, only eight points adrift of the dreaded drop zone. They have won just once in their last 10 league games, which is truly relegation form and can get managers sacked. Fortunately for Ange Postecoglou, he is still in the job and being backed by the board.
On Thursday, the North Londoners secured only their third win of the calendar year—a 3-2 Europa League triumph over Hoffenheim in Germany. The result guaranteed them a spot in the Europa League knockout rounds ahead of their final league phase game against IF Elfsborg next week.
Ange Postecoglou and Co. must now quickly shift their focus toward the Premier League, where their form has left a lot to be desired. Tottenham welcome relegation-threatened Leicester City at the Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. With the squad severely hit with injuries, not many supporters will feel confident heading into the game.
One positive for Spurs though is that Leicester City have lost their last seven Premier League games and currently sit just a place off bottom on 14 points. Nonetheless, Postecoglou’s side just cannot take the Foxes for granted.
Despite all the doom and gloom surrounding Tottenham, former Premier League title winner Alan Shearer believes that Big Ange’s boys will beat Leicester. With Spurs struggling for form and points, he thinks it is a “must-win” for the home side.
“Leicester have been really poor. I heard the chants before and after the game last weekend, and I know Spurs are in a pickle at the minute,” Alan Shearer made his prediction for Belfair.
“You would think after winning on Thursday night and then going again on Sunday, Spurs will have too much for them. If they don’t then you can just feel the ramifications of what the crowd and everyone else will be saying and feeling. I’m not convinced but I’ll go for a Spurs win.
“It’s a must-win game at home against Leicester. If they don’t, you just know what will happen, so it’s a must-win for Spurs.”
Going into the game, a possible win would give the Spurs fans something to cheer about and moreover also hand Big Ange some space of time in the job.
With so many players out of action, it will be a massive challenge for Tottenham to get the better of Leicester even though Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side are devoid of morale and energy. Big Ange has players with individual quality but they will have to click as a unit to collect a much-needed victory at home.
