Ex-Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood urges Declan Rice to make ‘PERFECT move’ to London rivals Arsenal in order to ‘progress his career’ – with the Gunners in the hunt for the £100m-rated West Ham skipper this summer
- Sherwood believes Rice and Arsenal are a perfect fit ahead of a summer move
- The former Spurs boss has also suggested Harry Kane could leave Tottenham
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has encouraged Declan Rice to move to rivals Arsenal, while also hinting that Harry Kane could move on this summer.
The England captain has been heavily linked with a departure from Tottenham this summer, with the likes of Manchester United interested in signing the Premier League’s second-top scorer of all time.
His national teammate Rice is also expected to depart West Ham after showing huge loyalty to the Irons, with Sherwood believing that he would be the perfect fit for Arsenal.
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, former Spurs boss Sherwood said: ‘I would be surprised if he [Rice] was still there [at West Ham] next season.
‘I think it’s time to do the right thing by the player and you could say possibly the same thing with Harry Kane – they have been great servants to their clubs and it’s right for them to move on to progress their careers.

Rice has been heavlily linked with a move away from West Ham and could get his transfer soon
Harry Kane has also been linked with a move away and Sherwood believes he could leave
‘He’s been heavily linked with Arsenal and I think that would be a perfect move for him. I think he’d make a real difference.
‘It looks like Granit Xhaka is going to move on with it being the end of his contract and Declan looks the perfect player to slot into that role and improve it.’
Sherwood continued to outline why he believes Rice would be the perfect fit for Mikel Arteta’s side, comparing him with Caemiro and Rodri.
‘He will add goals. Both Casemiro and Rodri chip in with goals and Declan does as well but just not as many because he’s occupied with the defensive stuff,’ he finalised.
Rice has been heavily linked with a potential exit as the likes of Man United, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal have reportedly held interest.
It remains to be seen as to where the midfielder will end up as West Ham could cash in on him for £100million in the transfer window.
Recent reports have stated that Arsenal are fearful of being ‘priced out’ of a move for the midfielder, however.
The current captain will be hoping to end his time with the Hammers with a European trophy as they beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in the first leg of the European Conference League semi-final on Thursday.
