A club CEO has spoken out on the future of manager Xabi Alonso amid claims he’s at the centre of a battle between West Ham and Spurs.
Speculation has been rife over the future of David Moyes at West Ham come the end of the season.
And rivals Tottenham Hotspur have been on the lookout for a new full-time boss since Antonio Conte left the club.
So, unsurprisingly, several names have been linked with both West Ham and Tottenham of late.
The Hammers and Spurs have both been linked with Arne Slot, Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter, Vincent Kompany, Michael Carrick and – most recently – Xabi Alonso.
Club CEO speaks out on the future of Xabi Alonso amid claims he’s at the centre of a battle between West Ham and Spurs
A report overnight claimed Moyes could take the decision to leave West Ham at the end of the season.
Ex Liverpool and Real Madrid star Alonso emerged as a new name in the running to replace Moyes earlier this month.
It was claimed the West Ham board are considering Alonso as a ‘real possibility’ and a ‘strong candidate’.
Soon after Sky Sports claimed Tottenham are trying to muscle in on the alleged West Ham target.
Alonso has been winning admirers for the superb job he is doing at German side Bayer Leverkusen.
Now his club CEO has spoken out on the future of Alonso amid claims he’s at the centre of a battle between West Ham and Spurs.
‘You can’t look much further than that’
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has told Spanish outlet AS he is aware of the interest from the likes of Spurs, West Ham and a number of other clubs.
But he fully expects Alonso to stay.
“He has a contract with us until 2024. He is happy here and we are happy with him,” Alonso told AS.
“We are enjoying working together and I am sure we will be with him next season.
“And hopefully there will be many more, but in football you can’t look much further than that.”
