- Thomas Tuchel suggests Bayern Munich should consider Arsenal’s strategy of spreading goals across multiple players as a viable solution to their striker search.
- Tuchel highlighted Arsenal players such as Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus, who have all netted 14-16 goals this season.
- The former Chelsea boss expressed confidence that with time and preparation, Bayern could create goal-scoring opportunities, despite the current challenges.
As Bayern Munich continues to hunt for a successor to Robert Lewandowski, manager Thomas Tuchel has highlighted Arsenal FC as a model solution.
“The big teams that are dominant right now have this number nine. The reliable number nine that we also had here with Robert,” Tuchel noted during a recent interview. Yet, he believes there’s an alternative approach to finding a goalscorer, pointing to Arsenal as an example.
In an interesting twist, Tuchel identified Arsenal’s strategy of spreading the goal tally among multiple players as a viable option for Bayern.
Arsenal, currently in a strong position in the Premier League, has several players, including Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus, who have netted impressive individual totals this season.
“There is the example of Arsenal, especially in England at the very highest level. They spread the goal quota among several players, many of whom have 14, 15 or 16 goals,” Tuchel explained. This distribution, he believes, could work for Bayern as an alternative to seeking a single goalscorer.
This approach is a deviation from the traditional format most clubs, including Bayern, have followed. Historically, they’ve relied heavily on a single prolific striker, a role Lewandowski has filled impeccably over the years.
Tuchel’s reference to Arsenal comes at a time when Bayern is still grappling with the departure of Lewandowski, who left in the summer for Barcelona. The Polish forward was instrumental in Bayern’s success, and his exit left a significant void.
However, Tuchel also expressed his confidence that Bayern, with its squad and infrastructure, could adapt to this new approach. “If we’re together for a while and have some preparation together, we’ll be able to create goalscoring chances,” he stated optimistically.
Despite the current difficulties, Tuchel assured, “There are always opportunities to create noteworthy chances to score.” He believes it’s his responsibility to equip the players to hit double digits.
The responsibility now lies with Bayern to consider this alternative approach and potentially take a leaf out of Arsenal’s book marking how far we’ve come since Ivan Gazidis held Bayern Munich as a club Arsenal should look to emulate.
Only time will tell how Bayern chooses to navigate this transition and whether they’ll heed Tuchel’s advice.
