It is fair to say Gianluca Scamacca’s debut season at West Ham did not turn out as he or the club had hoped.
So much so that recently the club president who sold Scamacca to West Ham for £35m claimed he would not be surprised to see the striker move back to Italy in the summer.
Scamacca’s failed debut season has brought pressure on David Moyes after his £170m splurge.
Scamacca was out for eight weeks with a knee injury between January and March. And one-game into his comeback he was then ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

It has been suggested the striker has played his last game for West Ham. The likes of Juventus are said to be seriously interested.
And Claret and Hugh claim Scamacca could be sold this summer.
At the end of last month Scamacca put up a cryptic picture post on social media of him looking forlorn in a West Ham shirt which had been changed to black and white.
As well as Juve, a host of clubs in Italy are said to be interested in Scamacca this summer. And it seems his knee op has not scared off potential suitors.

Now striker Scamacca has been pictured back on grass but will West Ham ever see him again amid the speculation?
Scamacca is back in Italy for his recovery.
And the £35m Hammers forward has posted a series of pictures on Instagram doing exercises, running and stretches alongside a physio or trainer.
“Road to recovery,” Scamacca wrote on the post, which you can see below, alongside a fist emoji.
No smoke without fire given deluge of Italy return reports?
Social media posts my be all West Ham fans ever see of Scamacca again, though.
With half of Serie A said to be interested in bringing him back to Italy, one would think there is no smoke without fire.
If it was one or two clubs then you could put it down to the transfer rumour mill.
But the West Ham man is reportedly wanted by Napoli, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juve, Atalanta and even Roma.
